The free Windows 10 Media Creation Tool is a very popular utility developed by Microsoft. With this marvelous Windows 10 creation tool, you can upgrade Windows 10 to its latest version without a hassle and create a Windows 10 installation USB drive/DVD disc to perform a clean install or to repair a problematic PC.

Step 2. Choose the Language, Windows Edition, and Architecture that you want to use for creating the installation media. After selection, then click Next to continue.

After reading this post, have you learned how to use Windows 10 creation tool or how to migrate Windows 10 with MiniTool Partition Wizard Edition? If you do, now try these methods to get the latest Windows 10 now!

When I insert a USB stick into my PC i get a pop up saying new device detected. When I try to create a media creation tool using the MS app, the process starts then i believe when it tries to write to the usb drive fails. just has and error cannot create on your computer or something close to that. So I assume it's BD. How can i turn off BD scanning or doing anything with my USB

What a horrible "solution." I'm sure most tech-savvy users simply have "Scan flash drives" disabled because of the lack of useful options. I wouldn't mind Bitdefender scanning my flash drives, as I do occasionally use them in other systems. But since the options can't be changed, i.e., I can't create exclusions or just have the app WARN ME about a PUP or other detection on the flash drive, then the entire flash drive scanning feature is worthless. I'm IT, so I have some powerful anti-virus tools on the flash drive and port-scanning apps, etc. The last thing I want your AV software to do is arbitrarily delete my files that are on the drive for a reason.

I have a bad hard drive on my laptop. I created Windows Media Creation tool both on USB key and on DVD. I can boot up from the USB key or the DVD, but after getting to the "loading files" step, the laptop then loops back to reboot again and reload the media creation tool. If I hit F8 (advanced options) and try to go to command prompt (safe mode) I get the same behavior - it starts doing something then reboots. I am having the same result with a Windows 10 recovery CD it starts loading files and then reboots, starting all over again.

3. When the program opens, accept Microsoft's terms and conditions, then select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC, and click Next.

You can also use the media tool to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, following these instructions. After getting Windows 10 installed, here are some tips to help get you started. If reinstalling Windows 10 feels like too much, use these tips to troubleshoot and speed it up.

Step 2. Once the software is downloaded, select your USB flash drive under the Device option and then click the Select button to select the respective Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7 installation media.

If you're on a Mac or Linux, Microsoft allows you to bypass the media creation tool (it's a Windows-only software application) and directly download the ISO file using your browser. The following steps show you how to alter your User Agent String to make the site think you're on a non-Windows device. This then allows you to download the ISO, which you can use to create bootable media using other tools (see Method 3.)

Once you have the ISO file to hand, you will need a reliable burning utility that will allow you to create the bootable media on a USB drive or a physical CD or DVD. We recommend UUByte ISO Editor, a versatile ISO tool for creating, burning, copying, editing, and extracting from disk image files. It's simple enough for new users and robust enough for professionals and it offers a slick user interface that makes every action as easy as can be. More importantly, it has a very high rate of success when burning ISO to USB or DVD, which most professionals know is the most frustrating thing about creating bootable ISO media. Here's how to use it:

This is the best way to avoid the errors that Media Creation Tool is not working. The issue with the USB drive not being detected is just one of many such errors, so it's better to download the ISO file as described in Method 2 and then use UUByte ISO Editor to create bootable media for your Windows installation, repair, or diagnostics. You won't waste disks or time because of errors the way you might on a free or open-source tool, so you can get the job done quickly and painlessly. Try it and see, and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

While there is no option to resume the download itself, it is at least possible to resume the creation of the installation media if the download completed successfully. It is hidden from sight however and not available in the tool's interface.

If you run the tool, it creates two directories on your main partition: $WINDOWS.BT and $Windows.WS. These folders contain the installation files, and an option to resume the creation process if it fails. Please note that these folders get populated during download, and that the download needs to complete successfully for all files to become available.

Open C:\$Windows.WS\Sources\Windows\sources on the system and locate the file setupprep.exe. When you start it, the process will resume the last operation instead of starting completely anew. This means that it will resume the creation of the media using the downloaded setup files.

On your taskbar a white windows logo should appear and if not update your PC. Click on the logo an follow the instructions from there
BTW what os are you using WinXp?WinVista?Win7?Win8RT?Win8?Win8.1?
If you want to be able to update 8 to 10 then you first go to the store and update it to win8.1 than do the top instructions

Hello dear. There is no sub folder named windows in the mentioned folder. Microsoft should have a solution. If they do not why they insist to download it through media creation tool. Anybody from Microsoft please either inform your superiors about the problem or at least mention that its not resumable so that user should be mentally ready that he would have waste lot of time and energy

Actually that means your media creation tool have not completed downloading all files. There should be a file with extension .tmp in C:\$Windows.WS\Sources. Use Proxifier software to have a track on network usage and downloads. It will show you svchost.exe is using your network which is responsible for downloading file for media creation tool. From there you can confirm that your download is still under process. Wait till the svchost.exe to dissappear in connection tab in Proxifier and check folder again.
-download/?no_download_manager

The $WINDOWS.BT and $Windows.WS folders are left on the computer after the media creation ends.
The $Windows.WS folder had a lot of files in it and is nearly 6 GB.
Can the folders be safely removed?

Antivirus conflict is the most likely cause of the error code , some antivirus tools may start many services in the background automatically and occupying some ports that originally belong to Windows Media Creation tool. If none of the solutions above can help you to fix the error code, then try to disable your antivirus temporarily in the Task Manager, then click End task.
