Hello,
I am using Runestone, AP CS textbook, as my textbook for this fall term at Knox College.

I have a question that I am struggling to answer; I would like to allow students to continue to submit late work after the deadline, but I want to know which students completed the assignment on time. Can you see when an assignment was submitted by the student or if it was completed after the set deadline?

Thanks,
Michael Gerten

Michael,

The design philosophy behind Runestone and assignments allows students to submit work at any time and we record every answer no matter when they submit it.  There is really no concept of submitting an assignment, just submitting the answers to the questions.

Since nowadays almost every question can be automatically checked when the student submits, we have moved to a system of updating the scores for assignments and questions when the student answers the question (subject to assignment visibility and deadlines).

The grader on the grading tab continues to work.  I think the closest you can get to what you want is to grade the assignment with the deadline turned on.  Look at the grades or download them or whatever.  Then turn off the deadline and grade again, noting the differences.  Thats probably not too bad if you have a reasonably small class as I'm guessing you might at Knox.

The grading interface is the next thing on the list to be redesigned and reimplemented once I finish the new assignment builder, and I'm happy for suggestions and feature requests. (please make an issue on github).
