Hi All,

Recently we tried to remove Java11 from my rundeck server and it took out rundeck as well.  I researched this and found out that only in the most recent version of rundeck, 5.0.12, is rundeck decoupled with java11.  Well, I'm a bit confused because if I run System Report in my rundeck, my build is:  5.1.0-20240214.  I last upgraded in March of 2024 using the following rundeck.repo:

rundeck]
name=rundeck
baseurl=https://packages.rundeck.com/pagerduty/rundeck/rpm_any/rpm_any/$basearch
repo_gpgcheck=1
gpgcheck=0
enabled=1
gpgkey=https://packages.rundeck.com/pagerduty/rundeck/gpgkey
sslverify=1
sslcacert=/etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
metadata_expire=300

If I use this same repo again, will I upgrade to a version that decouples from java11?

Thanks so much!
Eric

Looking elsewhere, it looks like it's 5.12.0 rather than 5.0.12.  I guess I'm less confused.  So my upgrade should be good.  How do I point rundeck at java17?  I've searched for an article but found nothing.  Thanks!

Hi, Eric,

The command
alternatives --config java
should do the job, modifying JAVA_HOME etc.

Hi Xavier,

One last question.  So rundeckd is running as root and root doesn't have $JAVA_HOME set.  Does rundeck set it somehow on its own?

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric

Rundeck is launched as rundeck user, that's the way RPM installs it. As for $JAVA_HOME, I'm not certain, but with the official RPM it just works :-)
