Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to share information about our Graduate Expo at Texas State University which will be taking place on Friday, Nov 5 via Zoom. If you know any students that may be considering a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education, please forward them this to them!
The expo is a series of events where potential graduate students can learn more about our program, hear current research talks from faculty and students, and interact with current doctoral students. Information and registration can be found at:

We have an awesome PhD program in our Mathematics Department with a great group of faculty including RUME researchers Jennifer Czocher, Paul Dawkins, Kristen Lew, and Kate Melhuish. (We also have researchers active in many other areas including statistics education, developmental math, professional development with teachers, and a multitude of K-12 foci. Our faculty includes Jessica Bishop, Sharon Gronberg, Hamilton Hardison, Hwa Young Lee, Bikai Ni, Samuel Obara, Cody Patterson, Robert Sigley, Alejandra Sorto, Sharon Strickland, Hiroko Warshauer, Theresa Westbrook, and Alex White in our department as well as Luz Maldonado, Juan Martinez Hinestroza, and Juanita Silva in the Curriculum & Instruction department.)
The department currently has several NSF-funded projects that prospective students may find of interest. The focus of these projects include orchestrating productive discussion in abstract algebra courses, developing theoretical models for transition to proof, designing proof comprehension assessments in real analysis, studying how undergraduates develop mathematical modeling skills, developing classroom observation tools, theorizing productive mathematical discourse, and uncovering middle-grades teachers’ and students’ meanings for algebra concepts.
If you know any students who might want to learn more about our program, please encourage them to attend our Grad Expo.
Any questions can be directed to me (melh...@txstate.edu)
Hope to see some of your students there!
Cheers,
Kate
