Dear RUME colleagues,

After another successful SIGMAA on RUME conference, we would like to keep the momentum going at the MAA MathFest 2026 conference. We are pleased to announce that the SIGMAA on RUME will run a themed contributed paper session at MAA MathFest 2026 in Boston, MA. Abstracts (with a 1000-character limit) are due April 15, 2026.

Contributed Paper Session Title: Research on Undergraduate Mathematics Education

Brief  Description: The goals of this session are to promote high-quality research in undergraduate mathematics education, share results from well-designed educational studies with the broader mathematics community, and connect theoretical work to practical implications for college mathematics. The session features rigorous and scientific studies on the teaching and learning of several mathematical areas including calculus, linear algebra, college algebra, statistics, combinatorics, real analysis, abstract algebra, and mathematical proof. Presentations may address areas including students’ mathematical reasoning, engagement in mathematical practices, preparation of future faculty, equity and social justice, teaching practices, curriculum design, and professional development. Submissions should report completed research grounded in the mathematics education literature and informed by contemporary theories, using rigorous or innovative methodologies for data collection and analysis.

Dates: The specific dates/times of our sessions are not yet known, but the conference is Wednesday 8/5/2026 - Saturday 8/8/26.

Further information:

  • Submission to MAA MathFest involves only an abstract and title, and there is no point at which you would submit a full paper to the MAA or to our session leaders.

  • We are looking for evidence in your abstract that the talk will be about research on undergraduate teaching and learning, rather than the more general category of talks about teaching practices.

  • The MAA encourages session organizers to move very quickly after the abstract submission deadline, so you should hear a response by mid-May. In part for this reason, the MAA's submission deadline of 4/15/26 is quite firm.

  • Each participant may make at most one presentation in a contributed paper session but may be listed as co-authors on more than one abstract. Anyone presenting is required to register for the conference by the time the meeting begins. It is not necessary to register before submitting an abstract.

Feel free to share this announcement email.

Sincerely,

Gulden Karakok

Programming Coordinator on behalf of the SIGMAA on RUME executive committee
