Hi RUME Community,

The PhD Program in Mathematics and Science Education (MSE) at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) will host a virtual open house for prospective students on Wednesday, November 20 starting at 6 pm Central (see pretty flyer below).

The MSE Program has 30 students and 20 faculty across four concentrations. There are currently 13 students enrolled in the Mathematics Education Concentration (and others in Interdisciplinary Sciences working in mathematics adjacent fields) supported by 8 mathematics education faculty (and we are hiring another!).

  • Students in the Mathematics Education Concentration typically have a master’s degree either in mathematics or in education, some with experience teaching K-12 or at the undergraduate level.
  • Mathematics Education faculty work in many areas including RUME, pre-service mathematics teacher preparation, and in-service teacher professional development.
  • Our students and faculty present regularly at the RUME, PME-NA, NCTM, AMTE, and AERA conferences (we have a generous travel budget for students).
  • The Program offers Teaching Assistantships for full-time students, with the possibility of being hired as a Research Assistant on one of the many grant-funded projects within the MSE research community. We are looking to add bright young scholars to our Program!
