Tutor Beliefs Survey

Hello everyone,

Mary Pilgrim, Anne Ho, Sam Cook, Sloan Hill-Lindsay, Vu Pham, and I have been working the past few years to develop a mathematics tutor beliefs survey. After several rounds of modifying and developing questions, we are now ready to administer it to tutors across the U.S. If you run a math tutoring center at your university or work with tutors in your department, we would appreciate it if you email them the message below. If you don't run the center at your university, but know the person who does, we would also appreciate it if you forwarded this email to them. We hope to collect preliminary data now, since some tutoring centers are open over the summer, but also plan to administer the survey again in the fall.

You are receiving this email because you work as either an undergraduate or graduate mathematics tutor, teaching assistant, learning assistant, or instructor.

My name is Erica Miller and I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at VCU. I am writing to invite you to participate in a research study about the mathematical beliefs and practices of undergraduate and graduate mathematics tutors, teaching assistants, learning assistants, and instructors. This study is being done in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University, San Diego State University, Boston University, and University of Tennessee-Knoxville. We are conducting this study because we are curious to know more about your mathematics tutoring practices and beliefs.

If you decide to participate in this study, we will ask you to respond to an online survey. The link to the survey is given below. Please respond to the survey by July 31, 2021. Your response will be anonymous. Attached to this email you can find a research participant information sheet for you to review.
