Dear RUME colleagues,
On behalf of the SIGMAA on RUME executive committee, we are pleased to announce that the SIGMAA on RUME will run a special session at Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) in Seattle, WA. We encourage RUME researchers to submit an abstract to present their work in this special session. Abstracts are due on Tuesday, September 10 at 11:59 PM, EDT. Abstracts are typically 1000-1500 characters, but the maximum abstract length is 2000 characters. Please see the details below.
Session Title: SIGMAA Special Session on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education
Session Description: The goals of this session are to promote quality research in undergraduate mathematics education, disseminate educational studies to the mathematics community, and facilitate the impact of research findings on undergraduate mathematics. Presentations may be based on research in any postsecondary mathematical area. Examples include studies on students’ reasoning or mathematical practices, instructional practices, curriculum design, artificial intelligence in teaching and professional development.
Dates: The conference is January 8-11, 2025.
Abstract Submission Form: https://meetings.ams.org/math/jmm2025/cfp.cgi Click on the “Begin a Submission” button under the MAA.
Conference website: https://jointmathematicsmeetings.org/jmm
Further information: Submission
to JMM involves only an abstract and title, and there is no point at which you
would submit a paper to JMM or our session leaders. We are looking for evidence
in your abstract that the presentation will be about researching undergraduate
teaching and learning, rather than the more general category of talks about
teaching and learning. One could read a paper out loud as a presentation, but
the norm at this conference is more extemporaneous speaking. The audience will
be a mixture of mathematics education researchers and theoretical/applied
mathematicians who care broadly about teaching and learning.
Feel free to share this announcement email.
Sincerely,
Kaitlyn Serbin
Programing Chair of SIGMAA on RUME
