This archive includes both SQL Developer and an embedded copy of the Java 11 Development Kit (JDK). Simply extract the zip to a fresh directory and run the sqldeveloper.exe in the top directory. The EXE is configured to run the embedded JDK by default.

Note: the Windows EXE requires a MSVCR100.dll to run. Most computers will already have this file and in the Windows PATH. However, if the first copy of the file found by the EXE is a 32-bit copy of the DLL, then SQL Developer will fail to start. You can fix this by copying a 64-bit version of the DLL into the BIN directory or updating your OS PATH such that a 64 bit copy of the DLL is found first.

This archive. will work on a 32 or 64 bit Windows OS. The bit level of the JDK you install will determine if it runs as a 32 or 64 bit application. This download does not include the required Oracle Java JDK. You will need to install it if it's not already on your machine. We officially support Oracle JDK 11.

If SQL Developer cannot find Java on your machine, it will prompt you for the path for a JDK home. This only occurs the first time you launch SQL Developer. A valid Java Home on Windows will be similar to

I found this website by accident one year ago and get addicted to it in just a couple of hours. Thank you for all the interesting and useful instructions/suggestions.

I am a database developer who uses PL/SQL to code everyday. I always hold an opinion that the position of DBA is much more superior than Developer(Maybe it's not true, anyway). So I want to slowly "evolute" from a developer to DBA. However, I found that it is almost impossible for a "Non-experienced","Junior" DBA to find a job. All the employers only want DBA who has 3-5 years(even more) experiences. Now I am just wondering, how could those DBAs find their jobs in the very first place? As a developer who can barely touch database administration stuff in daily work, how can I get myslef qualified enough to get a DBA job? You know, without practising, the knowledge I learn by myself will be forgotten very soon. Does Oracle's DBA certification help? Please show me some light of hope otherwise I have to re-consider about my career plan. :-)

Thank you very much.

boy, that won't be controversial :)

By the way - it is not true (says the developer, me, to you)

Your current employer would be the best path - you know what opportunities exist, you have the network of people, they know you and your capabilities.

Why would you not sit down with your manager and say "this is what I would like to do with my career - I really like it here, what can we do to help me evolve and grow over time?"

Oracle Apps is just a common business software with a lots of different modules. Any big business can buy it and then customize the modules according to their business needs and style. So all the apps developer will be working on either the customization of existing modules or develop new Forms and Reports using the existing apps tables. The database remains the same. So instead of designing and developing a brand new system for any business, Oracle apps provide all the solutins, but we just have to narrow it down to our needs.

But PLAIN Oracle Developer may not have exposure to these as he/she is not

working on one single set of applications.

Today Oracle Developer can be creating a banking application in D2K tools

(forms, reports etc) and tomorrow he/she will be engaged creating

manufacuring forms or other software using D2K (oracle developer 2000

toolkit called as D2K) or supporting those individual applications. (domain

is not fixed for PLAIN Oracle Developer)

I'd like to Oracle developer studio (ODS) on Ubuntu (in order to use its advanced parallel debugging features), unfortunately the install script will only install on Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux or Redhat systems. I've followed the advise in an earlier post but it doesn't work on Ubuntu 14.04 with the latest version of ODS. Short of installing a VM and then Redhat on the VM or another Linux installation I am at loss of what to do.

I believe you can install Oracle Developer Studio just by downloading the tar file version and unzipping it. This method won't support updates via a package manager, but I was able to get it to work on Ubuntu 16.04. Once the tar file is downloaded it can be unziped with tar and the program can be run by executing ./OracleDeveloperStudio12.6-linux-x86-bin/developerstudio12.6/bin/sunstudio

Oracle Developer Suite is a suite of development tools released by the Oracle Corporation. The principal components were initially Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports and the suite was later expanded to include Oracle Designer and JDeveloper amongst others.

Both tools were character-based and there was some integration between the two although they were sold as separate products. The developer interface became more similar over time and they were eventually bundled together as a single product named Oracle CDE (Cooperative Development Environment).

As with most products that had 2000 in their name, this was dropped after 1999 and the suite was renamed Oracle Developer Suite. Tools such as JDeveloper were added over subsequent years.
