Assalamu alaikum, Tell me if this sounds familiar… Somebody learns a thing or two about one aspect of the religion, then starts to preach about it without proper (or full) understanding, and even makes people feel bad for not knowing.
Or take another scenario…
You’ve thought one way your entire life, thinking it was the only way, then find out there are many valid opinions contradicting what you thought you knew. It happens to the best of us. That’s why this is crucial: The Prophet ﷺ said in a hadith reported in Sahih Muslim: Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away the scholars, so that when He leaves no learned person, people turn to the ignorant as their leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts and they deliver them without knowledge, they go astray, and lead others astray. The intellectual believer doesn’t just focus on knowledge, but on how to apply that knowledge to solve problems, not making more of them. The intellectual believer thinks critically. This is an important skill we build in my upcoming seminar: Into The Mirror: Spiritual, Intellectual, and Personality Growth Through Sahih Muslim www.almaghrib.org/seattle
Join me Live and In-Person for this single-weekend seminar taught in Seattle Nov 22nd.
