The State of New Jersey’s Unclaimed Property Administration can help you to find out if they have any unclaimed funds in New Jersey. Unclaimed funds include forgotten bank accounts uncashed checks or insurance payouts.
Here’s How to Find Out
If you have any unclaimed funds in the system, you can follow the steps below:
1. Click the link to access the State of New Jersey’s Unclaimed Property webpage: unclaimedfunds.nj.gov/app/claim-search
2. On this page, enter your first name, last name, and city, then press search to see if you have any unclaimed funds. If there are no results for you, try searching for a relative who has lived in or is living in New Jersey by using their first name, last name, and city.
3. If you find any funds listed for yourself or a relative, click “claim” next to the listing and then “continue to file claim” at the bottom of the screen.
4. You will be asked to put in “claimant relationship.” Once you have selected the correct relationship, click “file claim.”
5. Input your primary information. Regardless of whether you are filing a claim for yourself or a relative, you should put in your own information on this page. Once you are done, click “next” at the bottom of the screen.
6. Electronically sign by typing your name and reviewing the information input. Then click “Submit.”
7. If you have completed the steps above, you will see the message “Your claim has been successfully submitted”. You will be provided with a claim #.
If you have any additional questions, please contact your representative with the claim #. If you are submitting any documentation, please place the claim # on all documentation. Please allow up to 60 days to review the documentation submitted.
If you were not able to locate a specific property on the site, then you may submit a search request form (click on link) unclaimedfunds.nj.gov/app/search-instructions or you can request a search for unclaimed property by writing the department with the following information: List your name, current address, any previous addresses, your current telephone number, social security number, and a brief description of the property you’re attempting to locate.
