rubyrep speed up

Hello,

We utilize rubyrep in promoting some data set from dev to stage to prod environments. However sometimes the changes are really huge and it can be slow to complete the process. I am wondering are the known ways to speed up the process?

Is it safe to run multiple processes syncing between two databases? 

Would it be faster? 

Is there any harm in doing this? 

Are there table locks when syncing between two tables?
