background / delayed jobs with rails 3

I am trying (unsuccessfully) to get the delayed_jobs 2.1.0.pre gem
working with Rails 3.0.0.rc. I have also tried installing it as a
plugin, with no luck.
Can anyone recommend a gem or plugin that does work with Rails 3 that
will allow me to process jobs in the background?
