blogs followable?

I notice on tumblr when you visit a blog there's no subscribe to mailing list link just a follow button Is that the recommended method? I was gonna let the public subscribe to bloggers mailing lists without registering on my site I dunno How would you call this one?

Once again this is not a Rails issue. The details of how your users
interact with your site are nothing to do with Rails but are entirely
a matter for you to decide.
