I'm running my own server There's some sites running but I'm adding a site now that's gonna be using sitewide ssl so it's not clear am I creating certs for the whole server or just that site If I had multiple rails app sites on my server using sitewide ssl would I generate certificates separately for each site and place them in different directories? What directory? My fbsd server has an /etc/ssl directory but I feel like that's not gonna apply here

SSL certs are generated for either a host (www.example.com) or a
domain (wildcard: *.example.com).

How exactly you configure your server to use them depends on the
server that's terminating the SSL connection: nginx, Apache httpd,
Tomcat, etc. Read the appropriate docs for your case.
