The String class has methods associated with it. You use these the same
way as most methods in Ruby:

s = 'a string'

s.upcase
#=> "A STRING"

s.reverse
#=> "GNIRTS A"

Googling for
ruby string
led me straight to http://ruby-doc.org/core-2.0.0/String.html
