Hi All,

In our last meetup I volunteered to find, do basic evaluation and suggest a
list of CMS-like systems for the LKRUG.Org web infrastructure which might
include main web site, news section, planet (feed aggregation) among other
things. Amila will update you with the new info. So here's a few Systems
I believe has significant potential as extending capacity for our needs.

Please evaluate, provide feedback and also make your own suggestions
soon. For additional info about each project, please follow the links.

In no particular order:

1. BlankApplication
-------------------------------
URL: http://www.blankapplication.org/
Source: http://github.com/thinkdry/blank-application/
OSR page: http://is.gd/8Mgx4

Website claims to support multiple websites, Assets (articles, images,
videos), User and rights, Statistics (with Google Analytics API), RSS
agregator, Newsletters, Connectors to OpenERP and SalesForce, and
soon ... web services mashup, easy virtualization. Also has multilingual
support, optimized search engine, and RESTfull API.

Seem to have some features we need. And looks promising.

2. BrowserCMS
--------------------------
URL: http://www.browsercms.org/
Source: http://github.com/browsermedia/browsercms
OSR page: http://is.gd/8Mo4E

BrowserCMS 3 is the FOSS successor to the commercial CMS under
the same name. According to their demo at AAC09, their design goals
include getting out of the way of the designer and to provide a Rails
developer with CMS capabilities for their app.

Clearly not a traditional CMS. Should be good for Rails developers to
extend their apps.

3. adva cms
---------------------
URL: http://adva-cms.org/
Source: http://github.com/svenfuchs/adva_cms
OSR page: http://is.gd/8Mihe

4. Skyline CMS
-------------------------
URL: http://www.skylinecms.nl/
Source: http://github.com/digitpaint/skyline
OSR page: http://is.gd/8MhsE

5. Seed
--------------
URL: http://seed.mediacollectiveslice.com/
Source: http://github.com/desaperados/seed
OSR page: http://is.gd/8MhIz

6. Refinery
------------------
URL: http://refinerycms.com/
Source: http://github.com/resolve/refinerycms

7. Radiant CMS
--------------------------
URL: http://radiantcms.org/
Source: http://github.com/radiant/radiant

A lightweight CMS system used to build the official Ruby web site. There
are many extensions available too.

8. Tog
-------------
URL: http://www.toghq.com/
Source: http://github.com/tog
OSR page: http://is.gd/8MnjY

Tog is a FOSS social networking software with some CMS capabilities and
plugin support.

9. Evolution CMS
----------------------------
Source: http://github.com/visionmedia/evolution

Evolutions aims to build a Rails based replacement for Drupal. It seems to
be in early development. So the feature set is currently unknown.

These are the CMS software I've come across lately. Please refer these
and let your ideas known. If you know of any better CMS or suitable
software for our site, just reply this thread and let everyone know.

Note: Please note the final selected project should be a maintained project.
We'll need support specially from Rails developers to evaluate these.

Keep the mails coming.

Cheers,
Gaveen Prabhasara

Hi Guys,

Did anyone of you had time to check any of the CMS suggestions?

I think we are behind the schedule we agreed on the last meetup. So
can we
revisit the task list and make sure things keep moving forward. On the
bright
side we got the new official Twitter account. So the next...

Also need feedback from Rails guys regarding the CMS suggestions.

Cheers,
Gav

Again, Sorry for the delay in response. It seems BrowserCMS or SkylineCMS is good enough for our site.

Also, is there anyone volunteering to come up with a basic mock-up for the site?
We may start with a simple placeholder for the logo.

Good job going through all those CMSs!. IMHO Skyline seems to be a good choice.
