Hi All,

when you have to send bulk e-mail (say 2000 e-mails) what is the
method you use,

1 - workling / starling
2 - ar_mailer
3 - background drb etc..

cheers,
Sameera

In my experience more than the scheduling technique, the real bottleneck in sending emails is with the mail server.
It's very difficult to track delivery, avoid blacklisting and taking action on error reports.

For announcement  newsletters and stuff, CampaignMonitor or MailChimp does a good job. But seems services like MadMimi (http://madmimi.com) is even better, because of the out of the box Rails support (Here is the plugin - http://github.com/redsquirrel/mad_mimi_mailer/)

If there is a delayed task to be done ill always go for backroundrb..... It gives us a very good cron like interface for scheduled tasks as well.

I have found a rails plugin(http://terra-firma-design.com/blog/17-Ruby-Gem-and-Rails-Plugin-for-Mailchimp) for mailchimp (http://www.mailchimp.com/). It looks like a good one

I was able to create a campaign / add recipients etc..  (And their pricing is also not bad for a company - just to check I signed-up with a free account), I'll let you'll know the progress.

@lakshan,  http://madmimi.com is giving only 100 mails in their free account and mailchimp looks more attractive :)

@shamika , thanks for the tip :)

thanks and best regards,

Hi,

Sendgrid is another good looking service. Their free accounts support sending upto
200 mails per day. They don't seem to have a Rails plugin yet (but provides an API).
Heroku is working with Sendgrid BTW. And their pricing is quite reasonable, basic
starting from $9.95/month.
