Dear all,

I work with FOSS Sri Lanka and we're actively rebuilding old FOSS related communities in Sri Lanka and trying to re-start LKRUG community. As someone who worked most of the career working with Ruby/RoR I would love to rebuild the lkrug.org community.

Please do reach out to me or FOSS Sri Lanka forum if you're interested in rebuilding the community.

Thank you

Hi Lahiru,

Sorry, this message was in my spam folder. I am copying this to Chathuri, one of our project managers, to coordinate with you to figure out how we can help the group.

Best,

Hey all,

First off a massive shoutout to Lahiru for trying to get this group back and also Prabode on putting the hand up to sponsor the group. 👏.

Let me introduce myself, I'm Sameera and I'm one of the founding members of this group. We created this group back in 2009 when SL has almost no ruby community. I think at that time probably less than 5 companies were doing ruby/rails and this is
when rails was 1.x/2.x. The vision for the group / meetups (yes we had few meetups too) to create a community and help fellow ruby developers to learn and thrive by following Matz's MINSWAN. Overtime, like everything else, "life" happened and then everyone moved on their own directions.

However, I was lucky enough to stick with ruby/rails throughout and I'm proud to say `ruby` brought me to where I am today. Currently, I'm in Sydney and working as a Full-stack rails developer.  Because of ruby, I was fortunate enough to work with pretty awesome people like Mikel Lindsar (original author of mailer gem), Ryan Bates (rails casts) etc.

Words can't express how thrilled I am to see this old group is trying to make a comeback after 11 years 😱 . I'm more than happy to help you all to get this back in any way I can. I've got a 16 months old daughter and finding free time is not easy, but I'm happy to help any way I can.

I'm very keen to know what the ruby community looks like in SL now.

All the best and let's bring back this awesome community stronger than ever

cheers

Sam

@Prabode Weebadde @Chathuri Hewapathirana Thank you for your support. I've emailed you off the email thread to keep this clean. Would love to work with you again.

@sameera,
It's awesome to hear back from you. At the moment, there aren't any ruby community per-se in Sri Lanka but people at FOSS Sri Lanka is trying to build a tech community under various things as being someone who uses Ruby/Rails daily, I was tasked with re-building the community back. We have a team of volunteers who work with FOSS Sri Lanka and will be arranged to also work with LKRUG too.

Would love to get your help with the direction and the help to rebuild the community.

@all,
Thank you very much for your guidance and support. Words cannot express my gratitude.
