Firstly I'd like to say I hope everyone in the RM mainstream is having a nice conference today!

For those of us who want to further our RM development, but can't really take a trip to Brussels (at least not until we figure out what app to write to fund us there), I think it would behoove the RM community to do a monthly virtual meet up.

The Big Wigs can meet and merge large projects, while the rest of us can voice concerns etc.

Additionally, it would help us understand the overall velocity and M.O. of the RubyMotion ecosystem.

Thoughts?

I love this idea. We've been doing monthly meetups in Boulder/Denver, thanks to @colinta and others, but I think the community is small and tight enough that a virtual monthly meetup would prove extremely valuable. What would be cool would be a google hangout with a few key speakers talking or presenting in a fireside chat format.. with the rest of the community watching and asking questions via twitter or IRC.

Let's DO IT!

ABSOLUTELY STELLAR IDEA !!

I love it.

I have struggled, living in a very rural area, to find others with whom I can interact/collaborate.
This would be just the medicine the doctor ordered!!

I'd be more than happy to participate in a RubyMotion Google Hangout. Make it an AMA! (Ask me Anything, for non-Redditors) :)

I'd love to join too.  I'm new to writing apps with RubyMotion (just started a month ago, although I bought my licence in May last year just to support the project) but am deeply in love with it.  I've been a Rails developer for a few years and lead a small Rails team (7 people) doing sports-betting websites, so I'm not new to Ruby.

I don't necessarily feel confident enough speaking on a topic for the first few months, but I'm doing a GameKit peer-peer based iPad and iPhone/iPod app (non-game), so there maybe something I can talk about in a few months time if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Andy

Sounds good!  I'll start talking with a few people and either spearhead this, or give a status update for someone else to take up the charge.

My co-founder and I just had a quick tete-a-tete on it, and we're amped!  Will let you know more soon.

All-

This is a great idea!  I think it's obvious there is plenty of interest here.  Gant, if you set this one up I'll make sure it becomes a monthly thing - or at least recurring on some time table.

We (talking on behalf of HipByte now) would like to see IRC be the main medium for the interchange.  That way it's easy for non-english speakers to take part.  Plus it would likely mean that more people would know about the IRC room, and hopefully hang out more on a daily basis.

not sure if IRCs "free flow" of chat is gonna be a problem or not.

Alright! Let's do this!

Everything looks like it's kicking into action.  Expect the first meetup to occur Wednesday May 15th around 12 GMT (6pm US Central)
Our first guest will be Colin @colinta.

I'm starting a Poor Man's Mailing list until things get under way:  EMAIL ME HERE: Gant [the at symbol] IconoclastLabs.com There will be more infrastructure on it's way, but this gets things rolling today.
Email me any questions you may have for Colin or talking points you recommend.
Let us know your thoughts/feelings on the time we've chosen.

We'll have lots of details soon!
