1. Anyone have an opinion on the medium for notifications for new
meetings?

2. I'm thinking of dumping Meetup, although I think we gained some
members due to publicity there.

3. I was thinking of picking up the RubyJax Facebook group, in the
hopes of maybe gaining even better publicity there.

4. Or, do you think we've met all the local Rubyists we're going to
meet, and we should stick to the Google Group and the blog and Twitter
and what-have-you.

Thanks for any feedback!

Second the motion to dump Meetup. I prefer Google groups and Facebook,
as I am in those often. Meetup is an outlier for me.

As to generating publicity, we could do a monthly craigslist posting.
Or, maybe do some basic half-sheet flyers for folks to grab from the
meetings and post around town (in appropriate places) - like bookstore
or school announcement boards, etc.

I agree with Cayce... dumping meetup is fine with me. Google groups is
the standard for every other group I participate in.

I could go either way on the Facebook deal. I dont use it that much.

I like facebook and making a page (that we can all "fan") and Hashrocket can sponsor some RubyJax ads to help grow the group (might have to buy one less pizza to make up the cost)

:)

Motion to dump Facebook, especially the ads idea, I will also point out that when Andrew Maier got to town he sought out like minded people in the area by searching Meetup.

Meetup was one of the first sites I signed up for when we moved to Jax. It's how I found RubyJax and a bunch of other non-geek groups.

Maybe we should rephrase the question: Does anyone want to pay for it
so John doesn't' have to pay again?

cheers,

steve: haha, money wasn't the issue. it was more, "here's one more
thing to maintain." i'm getting the sense that we should stick with
meetup because with get imports that way. and maybe we'd get even more
if we did facebook, too. so maybe the real issue is: how can the group
admins streamline the publishing process though many simultaneous
media? # lark
