Is anyone else having the same problem downloading from RubyForge, or
is it just me?
Is there a mirror or someplace else I can download the 1.8.7 installer from?
Thanks!!!
Wayne
===================
For the past 4 or 5 days I've been having trouble downloading one of
the rubyinstaller files:
http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/69034/rubyinstaller-1.8.7-p249-rc2.exe
It downloads 8K or 16K of the file, then the download stops at this
point, and nothing further is downloaded for several hours, at which
time I cancel it.
This happens with Chrome and with Firefox, on two different systems. I
had the same problem on files from other projects on RubyForge, but I
can successfully download from other web sites, so I don't think the
problem is on my end.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Wayne Vucenic
You can try downloading from one of the mirrors directly:
http://files.rubyforge.vm.bytemark.co.uk/rubyinstaller/rubyinstaller-1.8.7-p249-rc2.exe
I haven't uploaded these files to RubyInstaller CDN, once we reach
final and complete the website will proceed to mirror these there.

It depends on the geoip from where Wayne is accessing RubyForge.
Thank you so much for your very prompt and helpful responses!
I tried downloading from
http://files.rubyforge.vm.bytemark.co.uk/rubyinstaller/rubyinstaller-1.8.7-p249-rc2.exe
and I still had the same problem.
It sounds like the problem is somewhere on my end (since it works for others),
so I'll try to figure out what's going on.
Regarding geoip, I'm in Silicon Valley, and my ISP is Comcast Cable.
Currently, my IP is 24.7.52.xxx.
Thanks,
Wayne
To my bad I cannot find another mirror link to provide for you, so for
this rare situation I've uploaded the same packages to drop.io:
http://drop.io/rubyinstaller4588
Please, any other user reading this, only use in case that official
RubyForge links doesn't work for you.
Hi Luis,
Thank you very much for doing this! 1.8.7 downloaded just fine from
drop.io. (And, of course, it also installed fine.)
Just in case, I also downloaded 1.8.6 and 1.9.1.
Thanks again for all your help!!!

Thanks for the new link. My only question now is, what is the diff
between 1.8.6, 1.8.7 and 1.9.1?
What are the pros and cons if any? I have Windows Vista, should I go
with any specific one.
I also have WAMP installed on my comp. I will post this question again
elsewhere hoping for a response....cheers
So I'm clear, did you try appending "/noredirect" to the end of the download URLs and still had the problem?
http://groups.google.com/group/rubyinstaller/browse_thread/thread/18862278d19676f0
If this *doesn't* solve the problem, please let Tom @ RubyForge know by posting to
http://rubyforge.org/forum/forum.php?thread_id=47493&forum_id=2
...and we may also need to look into making the downloads available from the project's GitHub download link at
http://github.com/oneclick/rubyinstaller/downloads
or look at other options.
Please double check whether the "/noredirect" option works and let us know.
Jon
For the record (FYI), I'm having the same problem downloading any file
from RubyForge (everything is redirected to UK, and speed is almost
zero)
The /noredirect at the end of the URL works, but seems that alternate
download locations will be needed pretty soon if this issue remains.
While I like the looks of the following
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Mirrors
and I like that you can segregate the downloads into folders (doesn't appear that GitHub allows folders), I haven't tried out their system to know if we could script the uploads for distribution through the mirrors via pscp, or whether you have to manually upload via a web page similar to GitHub.
This following info isn't entirely clear but it looks as if that, while you can upload to your project dir via scp/sftp, it's not clear that this will push the files into the mirror system. Anyone know for sure?
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Release%20files%20for%20download
While I like the idea of trying to keep the project assets together as much as possible, and would prefer having the files at the project's GitHub site, I really like the download folders at SourceForge ala http://sourceforge.net/projects/asciidoc/files/
Maybe Team GitHub is already planning this....

What do you prefer? Any others we should investigate?
