Hi everyone,

I am totally new to Ruby and am trying to learn how to create a custom Vagrant plugin. To do so, I tried to install an existing official plugin and make it run on my machine, which led to me an error I just don't know how to deal with.

My environment
  • Windows: 8.1 (x64)

  • Ruby: 2.2.1p85 (2015-02-26 revision 49769) [x64-mingw32]

  • RubyGems: 2.4.5

  • DevKit installed: DevKit-mingw64-64-4.7.2-20130224-1432-sfx.exe

=> about that, I followed the instructions successfully except that I did not see the "with native extensions" mention when installing the json gem. However, a line said "Temporarily enhancing PATH to include DevKit..." and I supposed everything went well and the doc was just not up to date.

My error

As far as I understand it, I am missing libraries (winsock2.h ?) but I have absolutely no clue how to solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey, it might be a problem building with Ruby 2.2. This was the first RubyInstaller release of the 2.2 version and things like this always pop up.

If you could leave a bug report on the maintainers repository about it not compiling and then the again with Ruby 2.1.5. Just look at the stickied post at the top of the mailing group for the fix to the gem problem.

Well thank you!

I downgraded Ruby from 2.2 to 2.1.5 and that actually did the trick!
