Greg and all -

Thanks for the recommendation.

Just to clarify, this is not like a gitx or gitk; it's a commercial product that makes a special exception for noncommercial users.  The web site does not mention this (at least navigating from the link you provided to the download link), except in the fine print of the license agreement.  There was a Purchase link at the top of the main page, but I didn't notice it...maybe I'm just not used to commercial software. ;)

Even for those of us who normally don't care about this, we should be aware of it, as it might matter in some contexts (e.g. promoting it in workplaces that have strict policies about such things).  I have a strong bias towards open source software, and try to make exceptions only for superb products like Intellij Idea (Java superset of Rubymine), Atlassian products (Confluence, Jira, etc.), and Mac OS X.

That said, it sounds like this product is excellent, and thanks for the information. ;)

I am *not* playing the part of copyright policeman, I'm just sharing some information that might be important and otherwise go unnoticed.

Below is the text of my correspondence with them on their Yahoo group (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/smartgit/message/140 ; requires login).

Regards,
Keith

From the description, this sounds like a commercial usage. According to
section 3.3.1 of the license agreement
(http://www.syntevo.com/smartgit/license.html):

"A purpose is non-commercial only if it is in no manner primarily intended for

or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation."
