Maybe, I would like to have a beginner's coding session for this
meetup?

How about the changes in 2.1? Has anyone been playing around it
lately?

The rails casts are pretty good about covering changes in 2.1. For
the sake of saving prep time, we could just watch the railscasts.com
videos as a starting point for sharing & discussion. The changes in
2.1 that I think are kinda useful are:

* enhancements to database migrations... ie. change_table
* an easy way of handling time zones.
* a new type of caching.

I volunteer to talk on one of these topics if you guys want. What do
you guys want to hear about? (If anything.)

1. My associative reasoning project....not really a "Ruby" topic, but
I started to write it in Ruby. I would love talking about it and have
an excuse to develop it more.
2. Ruby basics -- scope, dynamic programming, design patterns from the
design patterns book.
3. Resource_controller -- a plugin that makes your controllers super
skinny but still customizable.
4. Mechanize -- a very useful scraping and testing tool.

Okay. I'm happy to present on the Ruby language. Any more votes?

David :)

i know people who are interested in ruby on rails but doesn't have any
experience on developing with RoR. would it be ok if i invite them or
should i tell them to read on and learn some basic RoR before telling
them to come so they can relate to the discussions?

Is it also appropriate to "bring your own laptop" [policy] for this
meetup?
