Greetings, PhRUG!

A couple of friends and I started a site called NullPointer.ph.  It is a knowledge exchange platform created to foster the growth of the Filipino Developer community.  For those of you who are familiar with StackOverflow.com, you will notice that everything is almost the same - it is a Question and Answer site with a reputation system.  In fact, NullPointer.ph is running on a similar code base as that of Stack Overflow.

You might be wondering why we still created NullPointer.ph when there's already Stack Overflow.  Again, the site will be focused on the Filipino Developer community.  We're planning to promote it to companies and universities.  Our aim is for NullPointer.ph to become a valuable resource for local (and foreign) companies to discover local developer talents that fit their organization through the reputation system.

NullPointer.ph also provides aspiring developers a valuable resource that can fast-track their learning by having immediate access to the minds of the experienced.  This was something that I felt was missing during my college years.  And now, the right and probably the best answers to your dev problems are at your fingertips.

This is also your chance to showcase your problem-solving skills and tell the rest of the dev community that you're better than the average programmer.  Reach 10,000 reputation points before the others.  Or better yet, reach 100,000 reputation points and be NullPointer.ph's counterpart of Jon Skeet (the first Stack Overflow user to reach 100k).  Be discovered by companies this way!

There's more to NullPointer than I can explain here.  The best way would be to explore the site and start engaging with other developers.  Ask your questions.  Post answers.  Found a good answer? Vote it up.  Found a bad one? Vote it down.  Show your awesomeness as a developer.  Remember, it should all be about programming. Ask about Java, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Oracle, MySQL, AJAX, HTML, etc.

What are you waiting for? Visit the site: http://nullpointer.ph/

For more information, read the FAQhttp://nullpointer.ph/faq

You can also follow us on Twitter and Plurk.

Enjoy!

Nice!!!!!! Just signed up!

I haven't heard of null pointer for quite a while :) It brings back
memories of my "C" days.

nothing against Filipino devs (heck I'm one), but wouldn't this just take longer than posting to StackOverflow?

I've already registered.

just saying.

Yup, it would take longer, since we just launched the site now.  The number of (active) users has yet to reach a self-sustaining level.  That's why we need all the help we can get.

Thanks!  =)

as what commonly happens, thought of an answer after I hit send.

The real value of nullpointer.ph is that it allows us to glimpse what other people from the philippines are working on. In a sense we have an albeit inaccurate, probably heavily biased (some programming languages tend to attract more social people) sense of the skills we lack cum (http://steve.yegge.googlepages.com/being-the-averagest), and how boring what we are doing compared to other people in our industry/country.

This is actually a very valuable information.

In short I believe that if you don't have tools to expose(for us to explore) this data to us, I think you need to add this. (google analytics like frontend for commonly interesting stuff.)

good work guys hope your site succeeds.

Nice!!! I like it! :)

I'll support it, and also tell my friends about it! :) I've been
thinking of something like this here, and it's nice someone forked the
cost of having StackExchange. :)

Thanks!

Please please please change the font to something non-red. It's hard
to spend more than 30 seconds on the site because of the red font.

Hmmm...the red is more like dark maroon, except for the comments which is a brighter shade. But I don't find it irritating. Maybe it's your brightness/contrast setting?

Or maybe it's _MY_ brightness/contrast setting..  *scratches head*

Quick tweak done.  Still a lot of red in there, will remove more when I get the chance.

Thanks for the feedback.  :)

This OT but can't find the suggestions form/page.

#1 Need to seed the page with useful questions and answers.  During the early days of reddit they had plenty of dummy accounts posting various links , mostly from slashdot. This helped create inertia. I suggest you ask permission from user groups like phrug/pinoyjug to copy some questions that were asked at the said groups. I think if you give dibs to the people who answered it at the respective groups, the respective groups would allow it.

#2 You need to make it easy for us to make suggestions. I remember during the early days of reddit It was very easy to have an email correspondence with Alexis Ohanian regarding reddit.

Great idea for seeding!  Thanks for the feedback!  :)

For now, you can email the administrators directly (if you can find one..  =p).  We'll post something to accommodate this soon.
