I could do a RDRC highlights talk if I could get enough pictures/suggestions.
And if I could get there on time (may class ako sa araw na yun =/)

Plug and Rant Warning!
-----------------------

Great to see a new venue - close to home at that! :-)

Just a quick comment about the business side of being a start-up and
being in business:

- Cash is king - do not spend hard earned money if you don't have to.
- Your peer group is who you are - you are a reflection of those you
spend the most time with.
- You are more likely to build something great as a team - many
different disciplines are required to build a service, customers will
reach into their pocket and pay for.
- You need to be with your team. I have yet to come across a viable
and profitable business that was started with telecommuters.

I see the host of the next PhRUG is http://kmcsolutions.us/serviced-offices/fort-bonifacio
- it may be a great option for those who want a strong base from which
to build their business from with minimal commitment and no capital
costs.

Another option is to begin a dialogue with me - Ubertor will support
(Office space in the same Grade A building, 24/7 AC and Security, 2
Fiber 12MB internet lines (Fail over and load bal), exec. size desks,
beer, private gym, personal trainer, Kinect, Wii, biz. mentorship and
soon live DJ's) worthwhile start-ups for Free with no strings attached
expect of meeting self established milestones.

The above offer has been extended for over a year - with one taker so
far; WebGeekPH.com.

Some may say - Mike, you have no idea how things go here...

Let me counter; my ass is here, I am half pinoy, my personal cash is
invested here and my local mentors and board are Filipino Business
Giants -> https://members.eonetwork.org/resources/ChapterFacts.aspx?id=110
.

If you are pluggin away in your bedroom with no critical feedback loop
or accountability you are most likely destined to remain so.

Who would like to take a hand up?

Krist,

It's ok to join May 28 even if you can't join May 19.
You can find teammates through this list, or on May 28 itself.

You're highly encouraged to join May 19, though.

First, because the May 19 venue is just a few floors above the May 28
venue. You'll know where to go and how to get there if you join May
19.

Second, it's easier to find teammates you'd like to work with when you
meet them face to face.

BTW, you're not required to code only on May 28. If you have an idea
and have the time to work on it, you can start coding if you like.

Unless of course you like to do it strictly Rails Rumble style, in
which case you'll just prepare specs and mockups and do R&D and
practice on the gems you're going to use but do actual coding only on
May 28.

If I can make it on the 19th, and that's a big IF, I can probably do a short overview on Spree (http://spreecommerce.com).  I have an acquaintance who is looking for a developer partner (i.e. work for company co-ownership) for his ecommerce concept, and we were talking about starting the project using Spree.  Unfortunately, things drastically changed on my side and I could not put time on it anymore.  So if anybody is interested to talk about this, send me a personal email.

Thanks

Johann

Hi Guys,

If the other talks won't push through, I'd like to do a quick presentation about Resque.

Thanks,

Hi guys,

Would it be alright if I come just to meet and greet. I don't do professional web dev but I code with (yeah) PHP and a little rails (not really much to brag about).

Of course it's alright. Everyone's welcome to the PhRUG meetups, even
just Ruby-curious folks. The only ones that aren't welcome are
ex-OpenACS programmers.

See you on Thursday!
