The below was told us the back in August, do we have an update on this
yet? If we'll be getting the book free(?), I may wait, but I want a
printed version of the Tut book, or, a book-markable .PDF version
(which I will have to purchase).

"Secret revealed:) One of two of the first books we are going to use
is free and is located at www.RailsTutorial.org. We ask that you don't
buy the pdf version yet as the author, Micheal Hartl, has generously
offered to set up an affiliate program for Ruby Nuby thus allowing us
to receive a portion of purchases as donations. Also, he has agreed to
do a written interview. Please think of questions we can submit to
him."

gangelo:
The "free" that was mentioned in the original text refers to the HTML version being free.

There is no partial nor complete discount for buying the PDF through Ruby Nuby - what you get is the satisfaction of knowing Ruby Nuby gets a cut of your $39 purchase as a donation as part of an affiliate program.

Malcolm - let me know if I've misinterpreted this.

I agree. As I read it there's no discount, just a deal to share a percentage of profits with the Ruby Nuby organization.

Sorry for the confusion, Gene.

D.A. and Adam are correct. The 'book' is free online (electronically,
of course--so it should have been referred to as an 'e-book') and as
soon as we get an affiliate code, we can sell hardcopies and Ruby Nuby
will get a percentage of the proceeds.

Hello,

Thanks for the questions. Sincere questions and honest questions keep
a social movement true.

When the group was originally envisioned it was envisioned as a
501(3)c non profit. Then I started attending classes at
FoundationCenter.org. There is a thread that has more detail about
this and finding in our Meetup forum. Please see that for more info.
I will update it when there is more info and concrete decsions have
been made.

Basically, after researching the best way is to form a for-profit that
supports a non-profit. The non-profit will be the efforts that deal
directly with disadvantaged and at-risk youths and other groups such
as veterans(I am a 13 year vet). The for-profit efforts will be
everything else with a % of net profits going to the non-profit. My
initial thoughts that 5% is sustainable and will allow for the most
social good to be done over the long haul.

Michael Hartl has agreed to set up an affiliate program with us. The
first and only org that I know he is doing this with as I approached
him with the idea as we were going to use his text as a tool to
revolutionize education, philanthropy and end the cycle of poverty in
a self-replicating manner.

I NEED HELP. I need help setting up the affiliate programs through
Michael, Amazon and Apple and others. The funds from these affiliate
programs will go to the for-profit which is basically me at this
point. I have been funding Ruby Nuby on my credit cards which are 95%
maxed. I have been working 100+ hours a week on this. I have
averaged 4-4.5 hours sleep for 3 months. I am not complaining. I LOVE
what I am doing and see the immense good that we can do. I wake up
and can't wait to work on this. I have never felt so passionately
about something in my life. Thank you to the community for helping me
find my life's calling.

Please would someone please help me set up these programs so that I
can focus on the larger organizational issues. If there are other
things that you would like to see done, please step up to volunteer.

While some may feel disgruntled that I am asking others to help me
build a business that is going to pay me, the efforts that others
generously give to me and our cause will be multiplied many fold into
social good. Traveling to the conferences to spread the word has
financially drained me but filled me inspirationally:) I am asking
for help so that I may help others.

I have a strong belief that things need to be sustainable. If some in
the community don't feel that financially supporting my efforts and
the efforts of those who contribute to large chunks of time through
affiliate buying and etc is worth it, then we will proceed in a manner
that is financially sustainable.

I have decided to push ALL in. If I have to raid my 401K then I will.
That is the next step. I see the potential to help these kids in a
sustainable fashion and give them the mentoring relationships and
opportunities I never had. I believe in them:)

I pledge to the community that all inputs, financial or volunteering,
will be multiplied many fold resulting in an exponential return on
investment in social good for the RoR and for the world as a whole.

Thank you very much for the questions and thank you to the community.

namaste,
Malcolm Arnold
