Hey all 👋🏻

Since moving back to the Orlando area ~ two years ago, I've been interested in reviving the Orlando Ruby meetup. I'd previously organized the Nashville Ruby meetup for a season and loved the connections and camaraderie that came from that.

I'm trying to gauge interest and connect with other Ruby devs and companies using Ruby in the Central Florida area. I would love any connections, referrals, or ideas for finding these companies. Working remotely, it's been difficult to find a space to host the meetup and really see the scope of interest in the area here.

[might be a repost, apologies if so]

Hey Max!

My suggestion would be to just do something lightweight as it’s usually hard to gauge interest by (for example) polling people about a hypothetical. I’ve seen some “bootstrap” or “reboot the group” type events where it’s just an open invite for like minded folks to hang out at a library, cafe, casual lunch spot, etc. Space is definitely harder to find since so many companies are running their offices on a skeleton crew given low utilization across the board. Another avenue to explore is using a local co-working space (usually they’ll only entertain event requests from existing tenants but this is sometimes easier than other avenues for securing some space).

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go!

Great suggestion, Peter!

I did this with the SF Ruby meetup by just hosting ramen lunch and got 6 people to join!

Something that's been helpful for the meetups I'm hosting in other cities is to go through LinkedIn and invite individuals.
