Not sure if anyone here has heard of Ryan Bigg (Radar on irc), but a
while back he got started on writing some advanced documentation for
Rails to help explain the inner workings of how Rails actually
operates, which is fantastic if you're thinking of learning in order
to help contribute. I had forgotten about this guide until his most
recent post where he's asking for donations to help jumpstart the
