Relayed stream metrics

I am curious which is the more reliable indicator of how many media streams RTPEngine is actually relaying right now, at this moment:

1) cat /proc/rtpengine/0/status | grep Targets

2) curl -s http://127.0.0.1:9001/metrics | grep mediastreams

I assume it's the latter, while the former only shows ports allocated for the purpose of relaying future stream directions that may or may not materialise. However, wanted to confirm.
