Hello everyone,

I was pumped when I found this project, but I just had one question before diving into it a little more. So from my understanding, this will allow me to add a wireless sensor to an existing DSC system using the DSC Security Contact protocol.

please correct me if I am wrong.

There are some details on the DSC protocol and decoding here https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433/blob/master/src/devices/dsc.c
rtl_433 can receive and decode messages. Integrating this into some home automation or (to some extent an existing security system) is possible but likely custom to your needs / existing setup.

Your question is too vague to say if it's right or not, but I lean to
not right.

One could

- get an rtl-sdr dongle
- set up rtl_433
- run rtl_433 to output json and pipe to mqtt or whatever
- therefore receive events when the sensor detects something, low
battery, etc.

That's assuming the sensor is supported by the DSC decoder. I've never
tried it, but more importantly you didn't give a model number, but if
you have that you should read the sources.

"adding to an existing system" sounds like "program the panel to add a
sensor", and that is 1) not something rtl_433 does and 2) probably best
done by reading the programming manual for the panel and having the
necessary authorization codes.
