Hey, I want to play around with my car keys and then maybe do a rolljam attack (I think I can do that as long as it's my car). I use rtl_433 with my hackrf one.  I'm not sure how to use car_fob.conf (https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433/blob/master/conf/car_fob.conf) to detect and decode the signal.

there is no output when I press my car fob:
[sl rtl_433]# rtl_433 -c conf/car_fob.conf -d driver=hackrf -g LNA=36,AMP=14,VGA=42 -s 2M -f 434421000
rtl_433 version
20.02-19-g7a9bfd5 branch master at 202003252233 inputs file rtl_tcp RTL-SDR SoapySDR
Use -h for usage help and see https://triq.org/ for documentation.

Run in analyzer mode -A. That should give you a description of the signal.

Regarding the legality you have to comply with the regulations covering
the frequency band and the intent of your actions.
