Successful Public hearing in Varanasi by the Right to Food Campaign Uttar Pradesh along with NAPM Uttar Pradesh, Lok Samiti and Lok Chetna Samiti.
On 11th October 2022, the Public hearing raised essential issues in ration, pension and NREGA. Around 300 people came to the Public hearing and shared their testimonies in front of everyone. People from Varanasi along with a few blocks of Jaunpur district came for the Public Hearing. As a Government representative, Miss. Namrata Srivastav from the Food and Civil Supplies department of Varanasi district came. Press conference by the Right to Food Campaign flags the alarming situation of hunger in the country and the lack of adequate response by the government
The Right to Food Campaign held a press conference in Delhi on October 21, 2022, highlighting the situation of hunger in India, the inadequate policy response of the government, the Global Hunger Index report, the status of compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court’s regarding enhancing food security in the migrant worker's case and other issues regarding gaps in MGNREGA and social security policies. The press conference was addressed by Anjali Bhardwaj, Dipa Sinha, Harsh Mander, Nikhil Dey and Vandana Prasad. Kisan Swaraj Sammelan, Mysore from 11th-13th November 2022 | Session on the Rice fortification issue during the sammelan
The Right to Food Campaign and ASHA conducted a crucial session on the Rice fortification issue during the Kisan Swaraj Sammelan on 11th and 12th November in the presence of Dr. Veena Shatrughna, Dilnawaz Ji, Ashlesha Khadse, Rohin Kumar and Raj Shekhar. We as a group call out the policymakers for ill thought towards the public and food security of millions of people. We demand the government roll back the decision of introducing fortified rice in the PDS. Rather than going for a disastrous move like a fortification, the governments must ensure dietary diversity and the approaches to nutrition must be holistic, in a way that betters the health status of all people who are going through the difficult status of malnutrition.
Kisan Swaraj Sammelan resolves against introduction of GM food
The 5th Kisan Swaraj Sammelan which concluded its three-day deliberations on issues related to farmers, agriculture and related fields, has resolved against the introduction of genetically modified organism (GMO) food in the country. It has also called for an inclusive approach to agroecology as the main means of producing food by embracing the diversity of Indian agriculture, recognition of the tenant farmers, non-cultivating farmers i.e. the landless farm labourers and women in the extension of policy benefits, promotion of farmers sovereignty and income guarantee for all farmers among others.
Press Release: Supreme Court orders status quo on environmental release of mustard: "Do not take any precipitative action"
3rd Nov 2022: In a significant interim order, on 03.11.2022, the bench comprising of Hon'ble Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia ordered status quo on the GEAC's decision of 18th of October 2022; and the subsequent decision of the Ministry of Environment & Forests of 25.10.2022 to allow the environmental release of Genetically Modified Mustard/ HT Mustard /DMH 11 in 5 states on interim application No. 47/2016 filed by Ms. Aruna Rodrigues in her pending Writ Petition No. 260/2005.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan appearing for Ms. Rodrigues informed the court that it had in 2012 constituted a Technical Expert Committee with broad terms of reference to examine in detail the matter of Genetically Modified Crops in India. That committee called HT crops "unsustainable" and "unsuitable" for India; noted that the Herbicide sprayed on HT crops caused cancer; recommended that non-GMO alternatives were available in the country; and recommended a "Total Ban" on all HT crops on "precautionary principle" as no long term safety studies were done on the impact of edible GM crops in India on human health, animal health, & biodiversity.

PUCL Statement: Upholding of EWS by SC strikes at Basic Structure of Constitution
The PUCL is concerned that the decision of the Supreme Court in `Janhit Abhiyan v Union of India’ upholding the constitutionality of reservations for `Economically Weaker Sections’ (EWS) does grave injustice to the vision of the Constitution makers who incorporated Art. 14, 15, 16 and 17 in the Constitution as legal protection to counter historically entrenched and institutionalized social and cultural discrimination.

11 अक्टूबर 2022 को जनसुनवाई में राशन, पेंशन और नरेगा में जरूरी मुद्दे उठाए गए। जनसुनवाई में करीब 300 लोगों ने आकर सबके सामने अपनी गवाही दी। जन सुनवाई में वाराणसी सहित जौनपुर जिले के कुछ प्रखंडों से लोग आए थे. शासन प्रतिनिधि के रूप में वाराणसी जिले के खाद्य एवं नागरिक आपूर्ति विभाग की कुमारी नम्रता श्रीवास्तव आई थीं। जन सुनवाई के दौरान कुछ महत्वपूर्ण गवाहियाँ और चर्चाएँ यहाँ रोज़ी रोटी अधिकार अभियान के यूट्यूब चैनल पर देखी जा सकती हैं।
रोज़ी रोटी अधिकार अभियान ने देश में भुखमरी की खतरनाक स्थिति और सरकार द्वारा पर्याप्त प्रतिक्रिया की कमी पर प्रेस वार्ता का आयोजन किया
रोज़ी रोटी अधिकार अभियान ने 21 अक्टूबर, 2022 को दिल्ली में एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस आयोजित की, जिसमें भारत में भूख की स्थिति, सरकार की अपर्याप्त नीति प्रतिक्रिया, ग्लोबल हंगर इंडेक्स रिपोर्ट, सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देशों के अनुपालन की स्थिति पर प्रकाश डाला गया। प्रवासी श्रमिकों के मामले में खाद्य सुरक्षा बढ़ाने और मनरेगा और सामाजिक सुरक्षा नीतियों में अंतराल के संबंध में अन्य मुद्दों के संबंध में। प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस को अंजलि भारद्वाज, दीपा सिन्हा, हर्ष मंदर, निखिल डे और वंदना प्रसाद ने संबोधित किया। पूरी प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस को यहां राइट टू फूड कैंपेन के यूट्यूब चैनल पर देखा जा सकता है।
खाद्य सुरक्षा जन अधिकार मंच, पश्चिमी सिंहभूम, प्रेस विज्ञप्ति, 20 नवम्बर 2022
खाद्य सुरक्षा जन अधिकार मंच, पश्चिमी सिंहभूम के सम्मेलन का आयोजन 19-20 नवम्बर को TRTC, गुईरा, चाईबासा में किया गया. सम्मेलन में ज़िला के सभी प्रखंडों से मंच के अनेक सदस्यों ने भाग लिया. सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य था मंच के अनुभवों व संघर्षों व वर्तमान चुनौतियों के आधार पर आगे की रणनीति को तय करना.
सम्मेलन में भुखमरी, कुपोषण व खाद्य व सामाजिक सुरक्षा अधिकारों के वर्तमान स्थिति पर व्यापक चर्चा हुई. कार्यक्रम मे वक्ताओं ने कहा कि आज देश की भुखमरी की स्थिति पूरे दुनिया में चर्चा का विषय बना हुआ है. हाल ही में जारी हुई ग्लोबल हंगर रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत में भूख की स्थिति गंभीर है और अधिकांश देशों से ख़राब. झारखंड और पश्चिमी सिंहभूम में स्थिति और ही गंभीर है. 2019-21 में हुए राष्ट्रीय पारिवारिक स्वास्थ्य सर्वेक्षण –5 के अनुसार ज़िला में पांच वर्ष से कम उम्र के लगभग 60% बच्चे कुपोषित हैं (उम्र अनुसार वज़न और लम्बाई कम हैं). 2015-16 के सर्वेक्षण की तुलना में ज़िला में न के बराबर सुधार हुआ है. ज़िले की एक-तिहाई महिलाओं का बॉडी मास इंडेक्स सामान्य से कम है.
ग्लोबल हंगर इंडेक्स रिपोर्ट में भारत की स्थिति बेहद शर्मनाक - कन्हाई सिंह
गारू (प्रतिनिधि) :- संयुक्त ग्राम सभा मंच, गारू के नेतृत्व में विश्व खाद्य दिवस के मौके पर स्थानीय अर्मू चौक से एक विशाल रैली निकाली गई l बाद में प्रखण्ड परिसर में आम सभा की गई l आम सभा को संबोधित करते हुए जिला परिषद् सदस्य (पूर्वी) बरवाडीह के कन्हाई सिंह ने कहा कि अभी पिछले दिनों जारी ग्लोबल हंगर इंडेक्स रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत में भुखमरी की स्थिति बेहद शर्मनाक स्थिति पर पहुँच गई है. पिछले वर्ष 2021 में भारत का 101 वें स्थान से गिरकर इस साल 2022 में 121 देशों की रैंकिंग में भारत का स्थान 107 पर पहुँच गया है. जबकि भारत से बेहत्तर स्थिति में पडोसी देश पाकिस्तान, श्रीलंका, नेपाल और बांग्लादेश हैं, देश को इस शर्मनाक स्थिति तक पहुँचाने के लिए सीधे - सीधे नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्ववाली वाली भाजपा सरकार और और उसकी गरीब विरोधी नीतियाँ जिम्मेवार हैं l
भोजन के अधिकार अभियान से जुड़े सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता ने कहा कि अकेले झारखण्ड राज्य में 2017 से 2021 के बीच 25 से अधिक लोगों की भूख से मौत हुई l एनएफएचएस-5 रिपोर्ट के अनुसार झारखंड में छह महीने से लेकर 59 महीने तक की आयु वर्ग के 67 प्रतिशत बच्चे एनीमिया के शिकार हैं । राज्य की 65.3 प्रतिशत महिलाएं खून की कमी की चपेट में हैं. देश में आज भी 19 करोड़ से अधिक लोग भूखे पेट रात बिताने को विवश हैं l ये स्थितियाँ देश के विकास के रास्ते में बड़ी बाधक हैं l

जान्हों गाँव की जानवा देवी ने दुःख ब्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि कहा कि पहले उनके परिवार का पीएच कार्ड था लेकिन कुछ साल खाद्यान्न मिलने के बाद उनका राशन कार्ड अधिकारियों ने वगैर कोई सूचना के ही रद्द कर दिया l बहुत मिन्नत के बाद हरा राशन कार्ड बनाया गया लेकिन उसमें भी डीलर द्वारा राशन नहीं दी जा रही है l पारिवारिक परिस्थिति इतनी ख़राब हो गई कि हम दोनों बूढा - बूढी को छोड़कर बेटा पतोहू रोजगार की तलाश में बाहर पलायन कर गए l
किसान स्वराज सम्मेलन, मैसूर 11 से 13 नवंबर 2022 तक | सम्मेलन के दौरान चावल फोर्टिफिकेशन मुद्दे पर सत्र
रोज़ी रोटी अधिकार अभियान और आशा ने 11 और 12 नवंबर को किसान स्वराज सम्मेलन के दौरान डॉ. वीना शत्रुघ्न, दिलनवाज जी, अश्लेषा खडसे, रोहिन कुमार और राज शेखर की उपस्थिति में चावल फोर्टिफिकेशन मुद्दे पर एक महत्वपूर्ण सत्र आयोजित किया। हम एक समूह के रूप में नीति निर्माताओं को जनता के प्रति खराब सोच और लाखों लोगों की खाद्य सुरक्षा के लिए बुलाते हैं। हम सरकार से पीडीएस में फोर्टिफाइड चावल लाने के फैसले को वापस लेने की मांग करते हैं। फोर्टिफिकेशन जैसे विनाशकारी कदम उठाने के बजाय, सरकारों को आहार विविधता सुनिश्चित करनी चाहिए और पोषण के दृष्टिकोण को समग्र होना चाहिए, जिससे उन सभी लोगों की स्वास्थ्य स्थिति बेहतर हो जो कुपोषण की कठिन स्थिति से गुजर रहे हैं।
नई दिल्ली, 26 अक्टूबर 2022: भारत में जीएम सरसों की व्यावसायिक खेती की जेनेटिक इंजीनियरिंग मूल्यांकन समिति (जीईएसी) द्वारा दी गई मंजूरी पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए, जीएम-मुक्त भारत के लिए गठबंधन ने सरकार को ऐसी किसी भी मंजूरी के खिलाफ चेतावनी दी। गठबंधन ने कहा कि इसका पूरे भारत के नागरिक गंभीर विरोध करेंगे, और गठबंधन ने अपना विश्वास और आशा व्यक्त की कि सही सोच वाली राज्य सरकारें इस मामले में जनहित के पक्ष में खड़ी रहेंगी।
"जो कुछ हुआ है वह वैज्ञानिकता या जिम्मेदार अधिनियम कार्यान्वयन की कमी को दर्शाता है। 2017 से कुछ भी नहीं बदला है जब जीईएसी ने जीएम सरसों की खेती को अपनी मंजूरी दे दी थी, तब भी हरी झंडी दे दी थी लेकिन निर्णय लेने वाले मुख्य अधिकारी जो की पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री / मंत्रालय हैं, उनके द्वारा मंजूरी नहीं दी गई थी। तब से जीईएसी द्वारा गैर-जिम्मेदार तरीके से केवल दो अतिरिक्त परीक्षण निर्धारित किए गए हैं, जबकि जीऍम सरसों को लेकर अनेक मुद्दे थे । और तो और फसल विकासकर्ता ने इन परीक्षणों को भी नहीं किया और इन परीक्षणों के खिलाफ नियामकों से गुहार लगाई। जीएम सरसों पहले भी नियामक संस्था और फसल विकासकर्ता के मिली भगत से जैव सुरक्षा मूल्यांकन को दरकिनार करते हुए मिली थी।

आजमगढ़ में हवाई अड्डा - विकास या विनाश?
आजमगढ़ में मन्दुरी हवाई पट्टी का विस्तार कर एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा बनाने का प्रस्ताव है। इसमें 8 गांवों - हसनपुर, कादीपुर हरिकेश, जमुआ हरिराम, जमुआ जोलहा, गदनपुर छिन्दन पट्टी, मन्दुरी जिगिना करमपुर व जेहरा पिपरी - की 670 एकड़ जमीन अधिग्रहित की जाएगी व करीब दस हजार लोग प्रभावित होंगे। यहां की जमीन बहुत उपजाऊ है। पहले तो लोग यह पूछ रहे हैं कि आजमगढ़ के आस-पास वाराणसी, कुशीनगर, गोरखपुर, अयोध्या और अब तो लखनऊ भी, क्योंकि पूर्वांचल एक्सप्रेसवे बन जाने से दो-ढाई घंटे में लखनऊ पहुंचा जा सकता है, में अंतर्राष्टीय हवाई अड्डे होते हुए आखिर यहां हवाई अड्डे की क्या जरूरत है और दूसरा बनाना भी है तो उपजाऊ जमीन पर क्यों बनाया जा रहा, कोई बंजर भूमि क्यों नहीं चुनी गई? फिर कुछ लोगों का यह भी कहना है कि दूसरी जगहों पर सरकार हवाई अड्डों को अडाणी को सौंप चुकी है, फिर वह यहां क्यों हवाई अड्डा बनाना चाह रही है? क्या यह हवाई अड्डा भी बना कर अडाणी को ही सौंपा जाना है? यदि ऐसा है तो अडाणी को ही हवाई अड्डा बनाना चाहिए। सरकार क्यों किसानों की जमीनें लेकर उन्हें रियायती शर्तों पर एक पूंजीपति के हवाले करना चाह रही है?

Do not ignore food insecurity in country, activists tell Centre
Activists of the Right to Food Campaign accused the Centre here on Friday of diverting the issue of hunger away from the real situation on the ground and the food and nutritional insecurity in the country. Countering the Centre’s stand on the Global Hunger Index that it overlooked Central schemes and that the sample size of the survey was too small, the activists argued that the survey was validated by the national data on unemployment and stagnant wages.
NREGA workers to get interest for unpaid wages
Workers are entitled to receive delay compensation at a rate of 0.05% of the unpaid wages per day for the duration of the delay beyond the sixteenth day. If it is not paid within the next fifteen days, the workers will be eligible for an additional amount, ie, 0.5 interest rate on the delayed compensation amount.
The money for interest payment will be sourced from the State Employment Guarantee Fund. This will be recovered from the officers responsible for the delay. Kerala is in the forefront in giving wages in time. The new step will help ensure that.
झारखंड हाईकोर्ट ने राज्य सरकार को ‘भूख से मौत’ को परिभाषित करने का दिया निर्देश, मांगा जवाब
झारखंड उच्च न्यायालय ने राज्य सरकार को " भूख से मौत " को परिभाषित करने और राज्य में " भूख से होने वाली मौतों की वास्तविक संख्या" बताने का निर्देश दिया है।
एचसी ने 4 नवंबर को बोकारो में 2020 में छह महीने के भीतर एक परिवार में तीन मौतों के स्वत: संज्ञान के बाद आदेश पारित किया। "हमने कार्रवाई की रिपोर्ट देखी है। हालांकि, दो चीजें स्पष्ट नहीं हैं। पहला फिक्सिंग का तंत्र है। लक्ष्य और दूसरा यह है कि क्या राज्य द्वारा भूख से मौत को किसी क़ानून या किसी सर्कुलर के तहत परिभाषित किया गया है या जो कुछ भी है और अगर नहीं है तो कैसे बयान आ रहे हैं कि भूख से मौत नहीं है या वास्तविक संख्या क्या है
