For a survey of the state of development of smart phone applications
and facilities for people with disabilities, I'd welcome any info you
can provide.
Here are some particular prompts, but please let me know anything else
you feel would be pertinent. Information about any particular phone or
phones will be useful.
*availability of text to speech on the phone, and tools/applications
that use it
*ditto speech to text
*access to the phone from programs, including (1) sending synthesized
or prerecorded speech over a phone call; (2) capturing speech from a
phone call for digital processing such as recognition; (3) allowing
the phone to auto-answer incoming calls
*remote management capabilities (scenario: allowing a caregiver to
manage the contact list on a client's phone)
*openness of application development and deployment, including:
(1) availability of API
(2) availability of an "app store", and any restrictions associated
with it
(3) availability of any simplified app development tools that might
make it possible for less technically sophisticated people to
contribute apps
*support for html5 in a browser on phones, enabling cross-platform
development of apps deployed via the Web
*any apps (including for example navigation apps) that you would
highlight as especially relevant to people w disabilities
again, please feed me other info that I should have asked about, and
feel free to point me to docs or web sites where I can find the
material
thanks for your help!
