Hi guys,

I've looked at the documentation file that Wouter pulled together (forwarded again here in case it helps).  In general, I think the document looks great.  Some questions (one for each of you, you lucky ducks!):

Emiliano, any thoughts on this document?

Tim, is the "template" do file still in line with this documentation, such that we could release it to the power testers (and then at large)?

Loren, would you be able to read through the documentation with an eye toward Windows users -- making sure they'll be able to get from point A to point B at each step (and perhaps drafting the ODBC section 2.1)?

Wouter, could you do me a favor and just change the example on pg. 8 so that the second text lists a topic code 17 (not 7) so we don't confuse people?

Just fyi, I'm going to be in sketchy email contact for the next couple days, traveling through sheep country.

Cheers,
Amber

Sure I can add the ODBC stuff. I have some of that info somewhere -- on the previous Rtexttools vignette. To be clear, most users won't need to ODBC anything unless they're bringing in their data from Access, which may be the case with all the TextTools people I guess...

Hi Amber,

I put together a set of example scripts to demonstrate the software. It leaves out cross-validation since that hasn't been documented yet, and there is a bug in the maximum entropy cross-validation.

I've set everything up at http://www.rtextools.com/ with the draft documentation we had so far, and the example scripts. I'll be sending this out to our power testers in just a moment and they should be able to get started.

Maximum entropy not working on Windows complicates things when explaining installation, and I'm trying to get it up and running. It's the most annoying bug I've seen so far and I need to sit down and put the nail in the coffin before Catania.

Best,
Tim

Big news: I fixed the maximum entropy bug and we're go on Windows when Rtools is installed ( http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ ). This required a complete re-write of the maximum entropy library but this means Windows users have access to both low-memory algorithms (svm and maxent).

Best,
Tim

Congrats. That's great news. So just to be clear, a Windows user who wants to use maxent will need to install Rtools in order to get maxent to compile?

Yeah you still need rtools. Ill compile a binary sometime after catania to lift that requirement.

Attached is the ODBC and rJava on Windows. I have also included this in the ~/dropbox/RTextTools/documentation directory. I didn't see the manuals.tex document so Wouter if you just want to include this in your .tex file that would be exciting. Note that I tried to use ``'' for quotes instead of "".
