Thank you for the best wishes. But there are some other thank-you's
before we leave tomorrow morning.

"Die Ou-Ballies", Richard en Rob. If you guys did not enter, the rest
of us would not have been there.

Training partners the last few months for getting your shoes dirty.
Veral aan Hennie en Heleen, julle twee kan ook maar kom saam hardloop,
julle kan die 50+ "mixed" kompetisie wen, julle is altwee "naturals".
And off course all the other runners that joined us on Saturday and
Sunday mornings in the bushes, Segale, John Mosito, Steyn sussies,
Deon Bornman, Zelda, Dave Adams. En Cecile en Marieta wat op rusdae
saan teen die koppies kom stap het!

Let me also add my good luck wishes for the Cape Odyssey runners. A
lot of hard work has gone into preparing for this, all that you can do
now is to stay focussed. As I write this you are alreadydoing your
first leg, hopefully it goes according to plan. Good luck

Anybody any news on our CO participants?

I wish them all the best for the next stage...

The detail for tomorrow's run:

09 October 2008: Stage 2 - 57km
Kleinmond (S34 20.439 E19 02.177) to Paul Cluver Wine Estate (S34
10.098 E19 05.042)
Start: 07h00 Cut-off: 16h30
The first part of the stage sees the runners heading further along the
coast, before heading inland into Kogelberg Nature Reserve. The route
follows the Palmiet River up onto Highlands Plantation. Runners will
be rewarded with breathtaking views over the coastline that they
followed the previous day. The trail continues climbing to Lebanon
Forest where shady pine and blue gum trees await, before dipping under
the N2 for the final stretch through orchards towards the finish.

I have an update on Rob's team, unfortunately I don't have for other participants, after stage1:

Rob Dowdeswell in Team Die Ou Ballies achieved the following results:
Stage Time : 03.44.55
Stage Position : 14 in Masters category and 78 in general classification
Overall Time : 03.44.55
Overall Position : 14 in Masters category and 78 in general classification

So far so good. Hopefully the other teams are also going well.

Some more update from stage 2:

Dear John,

After even more rainfall this week, the route for Stage 2 of the Cape Odyssey had to be changed only hours before the runners were ready to face the second day challenge. For the last couple of weeks, the Palmiet River was flooded, but things looked much better just before the event started on Wednesday and the decision was taken to keep to the original course. As more rain fell on Tuesday and Wednesday, the conditions worsened, and the Palmiet River was once again not an option.Departing from the original plan, the a section along the Palmiet River was cut from the route and runners instead headed towards highland plantations (from Kleinmond), with athletes facing a 600m altitude gain within the first 11km. 25km later, runners were back on the original route, making their way to the Paul Cluver Wine Estate, which was 52km from their departure point.

Rob Dowdeswell in Team Die Ou Ballies achieved the following results:

Stage Time : 06.46.25
Stage Position : 19 in Masters category and 99 in general classification
Overall Time : 10.31.20
Overall Position : 17 in Masters category
