Subject: Hindus in Manipur celebrate Janmashtami despite Christian Economic Blockade.

Imphal,
Aug. 22, 2011,
Hindu's in Manipur today celebrated Janmashtami, despite economic blockade by some Christian caste's. Hindu's visited Temple's offering flowers and praying to Krishna.
Dance and musical programmes depicting Krishna Ras Lila were organised in ISCKON Temple situated at Airport Road in Imphal, Hanuman Thakur temple, Kalibari temple and Govinda Temple situated inside Kangla Fort Complex.
60% of Manipuri people are Hindu's and rest Christians. Christians belongs to various caste's like Naga's, Kuki's etc.
The Naga Christian caste imposed an indefinite economic blockade in several parts of Manipur against the division of Senapati district and creation of Sadar Hills District.
Majority of Senapati district are Christians belonging to Naga Christains and Kuki Christians.
People belonging to Kuki Christian caste are demanding that the Sadar Hills subdivision in Senapati be upgraded to district status, which Naga Christians do not like.
The Nagas living in the hill districts of Manipur, on the other hand, have been opposing the creation of the district without their consent.
Though devotees still shudder to think about the bomb blast that killed six persons during a Ras Lila performance inside Iskcon temple in 2006, some still managed to “feel peace within”.
Due to this Naga Christian economic blocade a cooking gas cylinder is being sold for more than Rs 1,000 while a litre of petrol costs Rs 110.
