Our Monthly Meetup @ CSULB!

Please join us this Saturday November 8th at 10:00am for our next *in person* Meetup!

Plug 1331 Palo Verde Ave, Long Beach, CA into your GPS and google will take you right to the front door.  :-)

We'll also post a sign at our old-new meeting place for anyone who wanders over there.

Here's what's on the agenda...

9:30 am: The Doors open. Stop by early and say hi! Or log in early to make sure your mic works. We'll be here.

9:45 am: Business meeting

10:00 am:
Vibe Coding: Level Up Your Development in Three Stages!
We'll walk through several real world examples of using a coding agent to level up your coding game!
  • Beginners can describe features in plain language, get working code instantly, and ask the AI to explain the concepts to you at your level.
  • Advanced developers use it to tackle complex refactoring and debugging through natural conversation.
  • And everyone can transform the dreaded documentation process into a simple dialogue that generates comprehensive docs from your codebase—no more documentation debt. (Alan)

11:00 am: Not All Robots Roll: The Movement Revolution!
Get ready to see robots in a whole new way! Ethan breaks down the fascinating world of robot locomotion—from rugged tank treads to agile legs that climb stairs.
  • Discover why the race to build walking robots isn't just about mimicking humans—it's about unlocking entirely new possibilities for where robots can go and what they can do.
  • You'll walk away understanding the crucial trade-offs that determine whether a robot rolls, crawls, or walks into the future. (Ethan)

12:00 pm: 30 minute grab-n-go Lunch Break

12:30 pm: Announcements / Show-n-Tell / Open Session. It's a great opportunity to ask questions and get advice. Our members will bring in their projects and share what we've been up to. Are you working on something? Bring it in!

For anyone unable to attend in person, here's the Zoom info for this Saturday's meeting.

Hi Alan et al...

I'll be at LEGOLAND with my 24 year old son and my 30ish year old nephew. Big day of family! Have a great meeting!

RSSC Has New digs! Me too! Makersville Services is going to be moving to the Long Beach's Promenade North. It's not a huge space, but has huge potential for foot traffic and visibility. We're also going to have a retail capability, and hope to be there in the next week or two. If you have something you want to sell, you can as a member of the space put it there and host a sale day. We have to do a lot of legalese with licenses and stuff, but we're working to make things happen easily. Be sure I'll be selling all the LEGO sets I've collected and now have no room to store!

It is a space to serve Artists and Makers, and we may call it Makersville, or we may call it something else.

There are Farmers' Markets and Vendors' markets on the street it faces, so lots of opportunity for foot traffic.

We are going to be gathering the growing downtown Long Beach community (lots of folks in those high rises) and creating capacity for making at this and other locations, plus events in spaces around Downtown Long Beach.

I'm also going to be working developing the group into a Museum of Invention for downtown Long Beach.

I hope you agree this is very exciting! I'll keep you posted and invite y'all to our open house.

In the Meantime, I wonder if you could help Ryan Kurtzman with the City of Long Beach's Innovation Department get the word out about the Long Beach Co-Lab progress and demo day on Sat the 15th 11AM to 230 PM. Flyer is included. The Co-Lab is an annual cohort of citizens who consider problems identified by the City staff and leads to RFPs for technology solutions that go out to small innovation tech companies who make proposals.

I expect the Co-Lab will continue next year, and they will be seeking a new cohort. I'll send that notice out when it comes out also.
