Last week I updated my ChatGPT (model 4o) app on my phone, and I was a bit surprised with the latest updates. For the longest time, when using verbal I/O with a chatbot, one would have to stop and wait for the AI to finish a sentence before he could reply. With this version, if the AI is midway completing its reply, you just have to start talking, and the AI will stop talking and immediately will start listening again.
Another huge new feature is the ability to speak with almost any vocal inflection you can imagine. The chatbot can sound angry, tired, excited, depressed, and even drunk. On top of that, it giggles and sighs appropriately. I think I might have even heard a breath here and there. If you didn’t know it, you might be persuaded into thinking you were talking to a live person.
