That photo is a “Stewart Platform”.  They are used most famously in airplane flight simulators to train pilots but have MANY other uses.  They have not changed much from the 1950s.

You can build one with 6 linear actuators or even with 6 model airplane servos and clever linkage.  So they can be affordable.
