Since January, 2009, Sh. Pranab Mukherjee is the Finance Minister of the Government of India which is headed by Mr. Manmohan Singh.
Central Board of Direct Taxes and Department of Income Tax comes under Sh. Pranab Mukherjee's Finance Ministry.
Department of Income Tax runs a helpline number 0124-2438000 for interaction between the Income Tax Department as well as Indian Tax Payer's to solve their problems, for giving informations about PAN, TAN, Return filing and other matter's.
This helpline number is number is manned by a private call centre based at Gurgaon situated in Haryana.
Lakhs of innocent Indian public calls this call centre daily to know about the status of their PAN Applications, about Income Tax Refunds, about Forms to be used for filing of returns, refunds, etc etc.
Getting connected to the help line number itself is a hard task as in most of the time the number is engagged. Even after connecting to this helpline number, you have to wait for minutes to get the staff come in line to talk to you.
As soon as the staff starts talking to you, he will ask you your name, contact number and the city or state from which you are calling. This is a regular feature, in recent period that after noting your personnel details, the staff of this helpline will convey you their helplessness as the server is not working.
When we made enquiries about this problem, we came to know about the fact that server's of Income Tax Department as well as UTI which namages PAN Card activities are not working properly for the last several months.
The only activity the income Tax Department doing through this hellp line number is collection of personnel details of caller's and pass on these data to private tele marketing agencies.
This is total cheating of Indian public in two ways.
(1). Public has to pay call charges for the calls they made to this helpline number.
(2). Their personnel informations is passed to telemarketing agencies without their knowledge.
We request to all my fellow country men to raise this issue in all appropriate forums to save the personnel secrecy of the individuals calling these help line number's.
