My name is Jane Waite and I work in a research team at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Computer Science and Technology who focus on computing and AI education. My university email is jw2...@cst.cam.ac.uk.
At the university, we are currently running a short research study gathering views and perspectives about the concepts and skills that could be part of a future AI curriculum in school, particularly focusing on the 14-19 age group. We are interested in both those who take elective courses, and all students leaving school. Our study relates to learning about AI, not using AI as a tool. You can read more here.
For this we are interviewing a number of different stakeholders, including university lecturers/professors in AI, to gain an understanding of views on AI concepts and skills that could be offered to students aged 14-19. We are also interviewing teachers, students, industry professionals, and academics who are in other disciplines teaching about AI. We are interested in positionality around AI, and how beliefs and knowledge about AI influence ideas about curriculum development.
We are keen to interview someone from the mathematics discipline, particularly the RSS, who can present a view from the English national curriculum mathematics context, who also has an understanding of AI and Machine Learning.
If you are interested in being interviewed, please email me.
Or if you know of someone who might be interested, please can you pass this email on to them.
The interviews would be held with me online, and would last 30-40 minutes. For any research publication we will anonymise all participants. For any potential public-facing report, we have been advised by our ethics committee to give experts the option to be anonymous or not. Interviews would be held in the first two weeks of January.
If you are interested, please do reply by email and I will send you a list of possible dates and times, and also will share interview questions in advance.
Best wishes,
Dr Jane Waite
