Dear All,

It may have been answered in the past...but I cannot find it.

Does RSpec stand for "Requirements Specification"?

Thanks in advance
Panos M.

I'm not sure (I wasn't around when RSpec was first named) but I've always thought the "R" stood for "Ruby", similar to the J in JUnit standing for Java, N in NUnit standing for .NET, etc.

Stephen Baker named it in early 2005 when looking for a way to avoid the word “test”, I think “Ruby Specify” is probably the closest thing it stands for.

"spec[s]" as I understand it is coder shorthand for "specification[s]".  Based on this I've always thought of RSpec as shorthand for "Ruby Specification" as in "Specification for code written in Ruby"
