Hi everyone,

How hard would it be to add ARCSI support for PlanetScope imagery (https://www.planet.com/docs/spec-sheets/sat-imagery/#ps-imagery-product)?

Looking at the product guide, metadata structure seems to almost the same as RapidEye, only with 4 bands instead of 5. Is it mostly a matter of modifying "arcsisensorrapideye.py"?

I'll be happy to help if someone points me to the right direction.

Cheers,

Thiago

Hi Thiago,

I haven’t check the planetcope imagery out in a few months but I think (correct me if I am wrong) but the issue would be that planet don’t publish sensor response functions for the sensors and therefore other than a simple dark object subtraction there is not much we can do. If they do provide sensor reponse functions then yes adapting the Rapideye sensor is probably not a lot of work.

If planet provide TOA imagery then you could just apply rsgislib.imagecalibration.performDOSCalc to each scene as that is the function which is called  in ARCSI.

Cheers, Pete

True, although they do include coefficients for DN to TOA Reflectance conversion on the metadata. If the sensor function is only necessary to calculate Esun, I wonder if we could "reverse engineer" Esun from the TOA coefficients by rearranging the traditional reflectance(toa) formula.

By the way, just read that they are starting to provide analytical images in surface reflectance, from October 2017 onwards, with the intent of eventually reprocess all the way back to the start of the mission.

Hi Thiago,

I would just do a DOS on the TOA imagery. Interesting Planet are producing surface reflectance but I am guessing they won’t provide info for it to calculated outside of their own system, at least not in the short term.

Cheers, Pete
