Hi all,

we have been using ARCSI for bottom of atmosphere correction of RapidEye imagery and discovered some issues, when we switched from the old API to the new API, provided by Planet.com.

When the data is downloaded via the new Planet API, the metadata xml file experiences a couple of small changes.

  • The URLs in the first line of the metadata xml file changed from :

<re:EarthObservation xmlns:re="http://schemas.rapideye.de/products/productMetadataGeocorrected" xmlns:eop="http://earth.esa.int/eop" xmlns:gml="http://www.opengis.net/gml" xmlns:opt="http://earth.esa.int/opt" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"re_standard_product_version="4.0" version="1.2.1" xsi:schemaLocation="http://schemas.rapideye.de/products/productMetadataGeocorrected http://schemas.rapideye.de/products/re/4.0/RapidEye_ProductMetadata_GeocorrectedLevel.xsd">

to

<re:EarthObservation xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns:opt="http://earth.esa.int/opt" xmlns:gml="http://www.opengis.net/gml" xmlns:eop="http://earth.esa.int/eop" xmlns:re="http://schemas.planet.com/products/productMetadataGeocorrected"xsi:schemaLocation="http://schemas.planet.com/products/productMetadataGeocorrected http://schemas.planet.com/products/re/4.0/RapidEye_ProductMetadata_GeocorrectedLevel.xsd" version="1.2.1" re_standard_product_version="4.0">

 The URLs changed from http://schemas.rapideye.de/.../  to http://schemas.planet.com/.../

  • The acquisitionDateTime format changed from e.g. 2016-06-20T19:10:49.819205Z to 2016-06-20T19:10:49.000+0000
For right now, ARCSI is not able to read the metadata xml file from images downloaded from via the Planet API.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for letting me know, can you provide an example image I can run ARCSI against?

We’ll be making a new release of ARCSI/RSGISLib in December so I will try to include this in that release.

Many thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

I was concerned about this issue too.
On this link you will find a sample image with the new metadata structure from the new Planet API:

I don't know why Planet keeps changing the metadata... but they give the cards, and we need to learn how to play the game.
Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Many thanks Rodrigo,

I’ve updated arcsi to support this new header format - previous formats still supported.

I’ve put the latest version (1.2.0) on my development channel, so you can test.

To test it you should create a new conda environment (http://conda.pydata.org/docs/using/envs.html#create-an-environment):
conda create --name arcsitest python=3.5
source activate arcsitest
conda install -c conda-forge -c au-eoed arcsi

Please bare in mind that my dev channel changes quite frequently and I do break things so don’t use this for production stuff. However, it’ll probably be a little while before we do the next formal releases of rsgislib and arcsi.

Best wishes,

Pete
