Hi,

Firstly I would like to thank all the people behind the design of this wonderful library!
I have gone through all the tutorials on spectraldifferences.wordpress.com.

I saw that AOT values were being derived to estimate surface reflectance in the blue channel but Is it possible to derive the AOT value of each pixel from a Landsat, Sentinel image?

Thank you for your time and effort!

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
Adhithya

Hi,

Pete will be able to confirm but looking over the code I think AOT is calculated for segments rather than individual pixels and saved within a raster attribute table. You should be able to produce an image from the AOT column in the raster attribute table using RSGISLib.

Thanks,

Dan

Thank you Dan,

By segments do you mean a collection of pixels based on a criteria? If so, may I know how these segments are selected for the AOT calculations?

Thank you once again for the quick reply! Greatly appreciate the work you guys are doing!

Best regards,
Adhithya

Hi,

What Dan said is correct but the DDVAOT,DOSAOT options perform an interpolation from those dark objects for the rest of the scene. I’ve never really been happy with the result of this interpolation though so wouldn’t suggest using this for something it wasn’t intended.

Best wishes,

Pete

Thank you Pete,

I was trying to use this library to map PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations at 30m resolution using Landsat 8 images.

But considering what you suggested it might not be very accurate, right?

Best regards,
Adhithya

Dear Adhithya,

I wouldn’t recommend ARCSI for what you suggest. It’s aim is to atmospherically correct imagery. The AOT value is, as 6S requires, at 550nm. Nothing more is extracted.

Best wishes,

Pete

Dear Adhithya,

I am not aware of anything but I have not done any work looking at atmospheric pollution so not the person to ask.

Best wishes,

Pete

You might want to look at some of Robin Wilson's work. He developed Py6S and his thesis was on AOT retrieval (http://www.rtwilson.com/academic/phd).
