to RSG-India - Internship/Project reviews
HELLO FREINDS!!!
We did our training from jawaharlal nehru cancer reaserch center
bhopal.
We had to pay 2500rupees for the training but it was worth it.
We basically focussed on NUCLEAR MEDICINES AND ITS APPLICATIONS.
Training started from 19th may till 19th june.
Nuclear medicine is branch of medicine that uses radioisotopes in the
detection of disease. Here process of imaging can be done by
1)Gamma camera
2)Single photon emission tomography(SPECT)
3)Counters for measurement of samples taken from pateint.
SOURCE OF RADIOISOTOPES:
tc-99,F-18,O-18.
TYPES OF DIAGONASTIC STUDIES DONE BY us UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF DR.MUKUL
MATHUR USING NUCLEAR MEDICINE:
1)renal scan
2)bone scan
3)cardiac scan
4)thyroid scan
5)liver scan
6)brain scan
In the period of training we were thought and shown how to isolate
daughter radioisotopes like tacnicium-99 from parent radioisotope
during chain reactor in nuclear reactor .
Then the next thing was how to add these radioisotopes to chemicals to
create radioactive drugs and then to inject these drugs to the
patients.
Inside the pateints to the organs to which these drugs were inserted,
these isotopes decayed into daughter elements producing radioactive
radiations, tese radiations were detected using gamma camera and it was
known as scintillation detection.
detector present converts these radiations into light pulses which are
then modulated and amplified by photodynodes, furthur PULSE HEIGHT
ANALYSER is also used.these light pulses are then fed into the
computer to produce the graphs and imagges of the target organs and
the graphs are analysed by the experts to interpret the functioningh
and problems of the target organs.
the approach for the training is direct to the research center with
the resume and gradesheets .
In all,it was a fruitful experience.
Warm regards,
Anubhuti Sharma
