to RSG-India - Internship/Project reviews
Hello All,

I did my 6 month internship from IGIB, Institute of Genomics and
Integrative Biology, New Delhi, under Dr. Debasis Dash. I worked on
the protein interactions in mycobacterium tuberculosis. Overall, I had
a nice experience doing my project there.

I was given a lot of freedom in thinking, which is an important part
of good research. The people working there, specially the PhD and
research students, were of great help anytime I wanted. I realized
that IGIB is one of those institutes which are connected globally to
share new information and research activities. So gathering
information from various connected centers becomes easy for any
project. There is a lot of work going on tuberculosis starting from
protein interactions to metabolomics in IGIB and thus would help if
any one wants to carry on a project on these topics. Plus, students
interested in Bioinformatics tool development, are the hot targets for
the institute.

In general, the institute provides good exposure to both national and
international data and research projects. The one suggestion I can give
from my experience is that it is important to chose a supervisor who
does'nt make you work day and night just for the sake of publishing
papers. In IGIB, not many professors are like that, and they
appreciate the work and the research you do, even if it doesnt make
directly to a paper. So thats the good part, but its always better to
contact ex students of you target supervisor to know his way of
supervision.

Lastly adding a point which I observed, that, if you think, internship
in IGIB can take you to big shot companies immediately and make you
earn big bucks, you might be mistaken. The institute is an excellent
platform for people who want to carry out research in future, and are
interested in PhD or even masters. So if you love the subject, and want
to learn more, go for it.

Best Regards
