.
*** Please see announcement below at the end of the email and help in announcing this opportunity to the perspective students ***
Our target candidates will be early career graduates (BE/Btech/Bsc/Msc/Mtech/MS) and Masters and early PhD (without grants)) project students in Physics, Computer science, electronics and communication engineering and IT, Data Sciences ( Msc, Mtech). who can benefit the most with this internship and contribute to our community software projects.
We invite you to submit project proposals to be carried out with these students. You can send us your project proposals (Max 1 page) by replying to this mail.
If you would like to be added on the website here,
http://research-software-collaborations.org/about/team, you can also send us your profile details along with a photo in the same email. Our aim is to match mentors/projects with students and with an interested international partner to co-mentor.
HSF-India Trainees and Fellowship positions will be awarded in a rolling fashion based on submitted project proposals. All proposals submitted before Friday, 15 April, 2023 will receive full consideration.

The HSF-India program is now accepting proposals for the Trainees and Fellowships program for the year 2023-2024.
HSF-India aims to promote the development of advanced research software skills by providing opportunities for early career candidates, masters and early PhD students to connect
with mentors within the larger High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics and Computational/Data Science community. At the same time, we aim to promote software as a collaborative activity and encourage collaborations which engage individuals in ways that maximize their potential and their potential impact on the community.
In order to accomplish these goals, HSF-India has created a Trainees and Fellowships program. HSF-India Trainees and Fellows will spend some number of months working closely with a mentor on an R&D topic relevant to the Institute. More details on the program are available here -
http://research-software-collaborations.org/trainees.html
Possible software R&D areas include:
- Analysis Tools and Techniques and integrated Analysis Systems
- Simulation, including developments in the areas of physics event generators, detector simulation and machine-learning based fast simulation pipelines
- Tools that facilitate “open science” practices including techniques for open data, open software, reproducibility and reusability.
Financial grant and total stipend:
An HSF-India trainee will receive stipend of up to 3 FTE-months (full time equivalent) at consolidated INR 50,000/-.
For fellows who already have some expertise in the respective project domains, the fellowship amount can be determined on a case to case basis.
As full time research software activities are not consistent with taking classes during the academic year (as opposed to summer), most fellows will work a smaller time fraction over a larger number of calendar months. (For example, half-time for 6 months.) Applicants should include a proposed time profile for their activities in their proposal, as well as note their academic course load and/or any other activities taking significant time.
Candidates will have the option of working remote or based at a hosting institute in India to be decided by mutual consultation with their mentors.
